Technology on the Road

I am sitting in an incredibly noisy hotel lobby in the city of London, England. However, I have a free wireless internet connection for my netbook so I am ignoring the noise and checking on my Facebook and Twitter account. I have just submitted a letter of interest for a teacher-librarian position with my school division back in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. I also responded to three friend requests from three young adults from Belgium. I met them on a boat cruise on the Rhine River in Germany. So I am trying to learn to read their updates on Facebook (which are in Dutch).

This morning before I left Paris, I tried to use the free computer in the hotel lobby. I was frustrated by the non-Qwerty keyboard. Since I only had a few minutes, I gave up on trying to find the . or the @ in order to enter my email address. Did you know that some of their keys have four symbols on them? Wow! I don't know how to access all of the options.

Now that we are back in England, my husband and I hope to have more access to wireless internet on the road. So I hope to be checking my email more often. I guess that being unplugged is a good thing. However, I have also felt really out of touch with the wired world which has become so important to me.
